Colonial rock Art – Espinar – Pampallaqta – Andasco - CalcaAbstract
Pampallaqta-Andasco is the only site with Espinar-style colonial rock art located outside the so-called “provincias altas” of Cusco (Espinar, Canas, Chumbivilcas, Canchis). This style especially includes warlike, religious and festive themes, crosses, phytomorphic and zoomorphic figures, solar, geometric and abstract motifs. The six identified panels at this site in the province of Calca show battle and festivities scenes, crosses, as well as possibly diachronic zoomorphs. Various indications allow us to ensure that these paintings were made during the Great Rebellion of Túpaq Amaru, by indigenous soldiers
from Espinar participating in the rebel military incursion into the Yucay Valley, between December 1780 and January 1781.
